I’ve quit worrying about things I cannot control

“There is a sumptuous variety about the … weather that compels the stranger’s admiration – and regret. The weather is always doing something there; always attending strictly to business; always getting up new designs and trying them on the people to see how they will go. But it gets through more business in spring than in any other season. In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four-and-twenty hours.”

This was part of a dinner speech to the New England Society, made by Mark Twain in New York City in the winter of 1910. Although he was talking precisely about the New England weather, he could just as well have been discussing the Texas weather of recent years, don’t you think? More specifically, he could have been talking about the spring weather in Texas in the year of 2012!
