“The legend of an epic hour …”
G.K. Chesterton’s familiar words in a poem of the 20th century could easily have been referring to Andy Williams, a true legend of a great deal of an epic hour, for he was indeed an epic legend.
Sadly, the most prolific and legendary singer of his century has fallen and is lost to music lovers’ personal contact forever. But we will remember him always. I was one of those who held him in close regard because of his background, his love songs and his longevity in the entertainment world of “my day.”
His soon-to-be celebrated 75th anniversary in his field marked victory and success from the early 1930s to the present day. His soft, down-to-earth delivery of such songs as “Moon River” (my favorite), “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and many others which he sang in movies, on television, the stage and radio during his 75 years of performance was also legendary.
