This week’s column was supposed to be about the Wednesday night debate between “you Know Who” and “What’s His Name,” but as I became enmeshed in the “conversation” of the two men, neither with whom I am in perfect (or even a small bit) union, I decided that it was an infertile field in which to dig my political plow.

So I began to look in my old files for something humorous. I came up with a commentary which I had once used to enter some sort of a contest. Re-reading it, I can’t remember whether it was a contest in stupidity or ingenuity. You be the judge. I had entitled it, “Of Substantial Obesity.”

“It is always depressing to me when I hear a new diet being heralded as a fat cure all, because I know I am going to try it. At this point in my life, I think I can safely say that I have tried and eventually discarded every all known diets available to human beings. Looking back at my gain/loss record, I have out-gained loss by about 3-to-1 (this includes Dr. What’s His Name’s famous Water Diet).
