PALO PINTO – On the first day of early voting, Monday, Palo Pinto County Commissioners heard a plea from County Elections Administrator Judith Evans to hire a temporary, part-time county elections clerk to answer phones from now until Nov. 9.
Evans explained that her office had been “inundated with phone calls.” She added that the position would cover answering phones and aiding with voter registration information and queries.
She added that it takes two people to program voting machines, and that leaves a period of time when neither she nor her clerk can cover the phones. She explained that the salary will be paid for out of Chapter 19 state funds.
When County Judge David Nicklas initially questioned the need for someone in this position, of pulling a clerk from another department, Precinct 2 Commissioner Louis Ragle said it is a needed public service.
