Some time ago, possibly a few years, someone in the community sent me the above handmade birth announcement heralding the early-morning arrival of four kittens back in 1952. He or she thought it might be of interest and something the Index might publish.
I intended from the beginning to share this quaint piece of history with our readers, but the card disappeared in the incessant paper shuffling that goes on atop my desk and in its drawers.
However, as if by magic, it recently reappeared and I thought I’d better get it in the paper quickly, before it went missing again.
As you can see, the card displays a whimsical style and makes a somewhat common occurrence into something special. Perhaps, for the expecting pet owner(s), it was special apart from the card; but thanks to someone, the simple event was preserved for posterity.
So, in the spirit of “better late than never,” here it is.
Does anyone know who drew this and who Randy might be?
