A man was arrested last week after Palo Pinto County sheriff’s deputies made visits to the residences associated with the county’s registered sex offenders.
Sheriff Ira Mercer said deputies conducted the home visits on the evening of Oct. 31. Mercer said when deputies arrived at the address associated with John Louis Sullivan, 42, it was vacant.
A subsequent investigation reportedly revealed Sullivan had not been seen at the home in the 200 block of Hideaway Acres Lane for more than a month.
Mercer explained sex offenders are required to regularly report to local law enforcement and must let authorities know whenever there is a change in their residential or any other applicable status.
When authorities realized Sullivan was no longer living at his reported address and had not informed the PPSO sex offender registration office, the department issued a warrant for his arrest.
He was arrested in Parker County Nov. 6 and transported to Palo Pinto County Jail where he later posted $30,000 bond and was released.
Mercer used the arrest to remind residents 34 registered sex offenders reside in the county. He explained the agency takes sex offender registration seriously and will seek prosecution of any individual found to be out of compliance.
Anyone with information concerning a registered sex offender’s failure to abide by the registration guidelines can contact Lt. Gregg Doyle at (940) 659-1289.
