PALO PINTO – Attorneys began Monday morning to seat two juries to hear two cases this week, both of which involve injury to one child.
On July 17, the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Child Protective Services, requesting an ambulance and an officer at the Kite Road residence of Willie Lee Ray Collins, 24, and Amanda Renae Winters-Collins, 19, Chief Deputy Mike Sudderth told the Index last summer.
He said the parents had a 5-month-old baby in a travel trailer who was severely malnourished. The baby was flown from the scene by air ambulance to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.
“After getting some reports from the staff at Cook Children’s, we arrested the parents for injury to a child,” Sudderth told the Index. He added that CPS also removed a 16-month-old girl from the home.
Both parents are on trial throughout this week for injury to a child. The first trial is expected to begin with evidence today and continue through Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. The second trial will follow, later this week.
