According to event organizer Stephanie White, Saturday’s Coats for Kids Ride resulted in about 80 new coat donations to benefit local children.

White became involved in the event after last year’s inaugural ride in Denton and decided to bring the motorcycle charity ride to Mineral Wells.

“About 45 people registered,” she said. “Of the 45 that registered, there were about 35 to 40 bikes.”

While everyone who registered donated a coat, White said some participants brought more. In addition to the coats, she said the event has also raised about $1,800, which will be used to purchase any extra coats needed.

“We’re going to start delivering coats this week,” she said, adding anyone interested in donating can still drop of a new coat at local businesses Fuzzy’s, Smitty’s Cycles and Best Western until Dec. 15.

White said she did not set any expectations for the first local ride but is thankful for all those who participated.

“We were just hoping for the best,” she said, adding everyone involved is “excited and ready for next year.”
