POSSUM KINGDOM – A Fort Worth man was found dead, apparently from drowning, Sunday morning at Possum Kingdom Lake.
Authorities recovered the body of Russell Reed, 42, of Fort Worth, from a swimming area at the lake near a condominium complex where he was visiting friends, said Judi Pierce, public information officer with the Brazos River Authority.
She said Reed’s friends reported he had last been seen at the condominium Friday evening. Authorities from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Palo Pinto Sheriff’s Office and the BRA began a shoreline ground search for Reed on Saturday, asking area residents if they knew of his whereabouts.
After making an extensive shoreline search, Pierce said, authorities then turned their investigation to the lake, doing a water search Saturday using sonar.
The search was called off Sunday morning when a sheriff’s deputy found Reed’s body in the swimming area, she said.
An autopsy has been ordered, she said.
