Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2399 will celebrate Flag Day on Saturday two ways.
One will be with its Plaza of Flags that lines the front of the veterans post with new, bright flags flapping in the breeze.
Another will be with the formal and proper retirement of a couple hundred worn out, faded flags gathered from throughout the community.
The ceremony begins at 5 p.m. with music by Troy Stone. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will ceremoniously dispose of the tattered stars and stripes banners.
There will be snacks and refreshments, as well as happy hour in the post club afterward.
Also on Saturday, the U.S. Army celebrates its 239th birthday and a cake is also planned in honor of the event.
The Mineral Wells Rotary Club on Saturday will also place flags around town for those on its flag subscription service. For more information about that call Dale Brown at 940-325-1585 or Jack Jackson at 940-325-0257.
