Pennies add up for United Way

Second annual penny auction benefiting United Way of Palo Pinto County is Saturday


Valuable merchandise and services will be available for literally pennies on the dollar at United Way of Palo Pinto County’s second annual Penny Auction.

The event takes place beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mineral Wells Junior High School gym, 1301 S.E. 14th Ave. The auction will begin at 6 p.m.

You can bring your own pennies, or buy them at the auction.

A number of goods, services and merchandise have been donated by local businesses and individuals in support of the 2012 United Way campaign currently under way. One of the top items that will be up for auction is a leather recliner, donated by Joe and Tina Ruelas.

Other items up for auction include 12 gift cards for a family of four to dine at Hickey’s Dairy Queen, donated by Titan Bank; two rounds of golf at the Cliff’s Resort, donated by Ric Hayward of Pondera Properties; a flat screen TV; a Kindle; a Winchester knife set; Penne sandwich grill; Family Game Night (basket of board games); Morenci candles; planters; mosaic cross; gift cards for Walmart, iTunes, Chili’s and Comet Cleaners; crystal Christmas light-up décor; Pez collector set, Merle Norman makeup and skin care set; cross planter; Texas metal hanging basket; Wilton edge cutter; and an Elizabeth Taylor white diamonds watch.
