City and county law enforcement officers arrested two individuals at a local hotel after finding them in possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
According to a press release from Palo Pinto County Sheriff Ira Mercer, Precinct 5 Constable Gary Morris contacted deputies in reference to a disturbance with possible drug activity last week at a hotel room in the 3600 block of U.S. Highway 180 East.
Members of the City-County Narcotics Unit arrived at the location and, upon entering the room, reportedly found Claude Aubrey Green, 47, of Jacksboro, in a chair near the entrance. Below the chair, officers found a glass pipe and a black zippered pouch.
Officials suspected the pipe was used to smoke methamphetamine and allegedly found a plastic baggie inside a pouch containing a crystalized substance thought to be the drug. During the search, officers also reportedly recovered several other plastic baggies containing suspected meth residue and other empty baggies believed to be used for packaging drugs.
Leslie Sewell Newsome, 38, of Jacksboro, was also questioned at the scene and agreed to allow officers to search her purse.
Deputies recovered a pill, later determined to be a muscle relaxer, from her purse. A female officer searched Newsome and found four prescription pills in her possession. A glass pipe with heavy methamphetamine residue, several syringes, baggies, a scale and a second glass pipe were all allegedly found in a subsequent search of her makeup bag.
Green was arrested for possession of a controlled substance less than one gram and possession of drug paraphernalia. As of Wednesday, he remained in Palo Pinto County Jail under $10,000 bond for the first charge and $500 bond for the latter.
Newsome was arrested for possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance less than one gram. She was released Friday after posting a combined $13,500 bond.
