The Mineral Wells Art Association invites the public to join them Tuesday evening at the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce for a demonstration by artist Ken MacFarlane, who will show how to create works of art from scratch board.
A resident of Breckenridge, as well as Tucson, Ariz., MacFarlane uses scratchboard to make dramatic depictions of subjects, namely people and animals.
He explains that scratchboard “is like pencil in reverse” where “dark becomes light.”
Instead of putting color or graphite on a white piece of paper, an artist or student starts out with a black-surfaced scratchboard and uses tools, scratching lines to create exquisitely detailed white-on-black art.
On his website, www.tunastreasures.com, MacFarlane said one of his favorite aspects of art is “capturing the battle between light and dark. That is why I have become enamored with scratchboard.”
To learn more about this art form and to enjoy MacFarlane's demonstration, join the art association Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce meeting room. The association is always looking for new, prospective members.
