There will be dancing in early February as fathers and daughters attend the sixth annual Father-Daughter Dance in Mineral Wells, an event sponsored by Girls Aspiring through Leadership and Service. GALS is a local initiative that conducts several service projects throughout the year.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, at Clark Gardens from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tickets are currently available at Cole's Flowers for $10 per couple. K-6th-grade girls are invited to attend with their fathers or male role models.
Although in years past tickets could be purchased at the event, tickets will only be available for pre-sale this year because of a growing demand. There are 250 tickets in all, so the time to get one is now, as GALS is expecting the event to be a sellout.
Leann Johnson of GALS said, "Obviously we don't want to turn anyone away, but Clark Gardens has a capacity limit."
The event, although at first glance just a dance, is meant to draw fathers and daughters together as well as the community.
“There are people [at the Father-Daughter-Dance] from every walk of life,” Johnson said. “Hopefully fathers will take their daughters out to dance and teach them [that] this is how a relationship between a man and a young woman should be. We also hope they have the opportunity to bond."
A DJ will provide the music, and light refreshments will be served.
