Arts group needs new home

Over the past two years the Mineral Wells Art Association has been painting on borrowed time – or, at least, in a generously loaned building that was up for sale.

The building sold and now the non-profit organization is looking for new digs, preferably rent-free, and is asking for community help in finding a new space to move into in January.

“Bill and Margaret Terry have been very kind to allow us to utilize their building at no cost to the club for the past two years,” MWAA President Mike Wells wrote members in an email Monday. “We appreciate the time we were allowed.”

Wells asked for any suggestions on another building, which isn’t being used, that could serve the organization’s needs, including space for our tables, chairs and wall space to hang art.

Prior to moving into the building on S.E. 3rd Ave., the club was nomadic. However, in the past two years, having a place to paint and display our art has allowed our club to grow in members and offerings to the community, including public art demonstrations. Wells said needs to continue, since this is an organization for the community.

Anyone wishing to learn to paint is always welcome to join.

Wells said he hopes in the future the association can offer “pottery, crafts, photography and any other form of art that will work for our new home, where ever it may be.”

“Due to the expense of electrical wiring in a borrowed building we have not been able to offer art forms other than painting. Maybe someone is willing to help us find a building suitable for all of the arts,” he said.

If anyone has a space to offer, please call Wells at (940) 325-3065.
