A joint effort by local military groups, the third annual Christmas at the Wall event is set to begin Sunday at 5 p.m. at the National Vietnam War Museum.
Sponsored by AmVets Post 133, American Legion Post 75, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 235 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2399, the yearly celebration is free to the public.
Along with museum treasurer Jim Messinger, representatives from each of the participating groups are scheduled to speak.
Following an address by guest speaker Ralph Anguiano Jr., DAV Chapter 235 will lead a public candle lighting ceremony.
Refreshments including coffee, tea and cider will be provided for free by Shotgun's Barbecue.
The event will culminate in the lighting of the tree, led by the Anguiano family.
Following a rifle salute and Taps performed by the North Texas Honor Guard and closing remarks, attendees are invited to view the 300-foot long permanent replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. The family is invited to honor Tony Anguiano, who was killed in action more than 40 years ago.
Anguiano, a Specialist in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, was 20 when he died in the Quang Ngai Province on July 24, 1971.
