A Mineral Wells woman was arrested last week, charged with injury to a child with the intent of serious bodily injury.
Bobbie Lea Towles, 19, of Mineral Wells, remained in Palo Pinto County Jail Tuesday afternoon awaiting arraignment. No bond has been set.
Towles was arrested in Parker County May 28 by the Parker County Fugitive Apprehension Team following leads from a Mineral Wells police investigation, said police spokesman Randy Wright.
The investigation began when Cook’s Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth reported to Mineral Wells police that Towles allegedly brought her 3-month-old daughter to Cook’s with a suspicious head injury, Wright said. Towles reportedly was referred to Cook’s by a local Mineral Wells hospital.
Police initiated an investigation of the child’s injury with assistance from a Palo Pinto District Attorney’s office investigator, he said. Investigators learned the child’s injuries were consistent with those of a shaken baby.
They also discovered Towles had two other young children, who were taken to the Children’s Alliance Center of Palo Pinto County, where they were interviewed, Wright said. Assisting with the interview was the Paluxy River Children’s Advocacy Center of Glen Rose.
Police gained enough information from the investigation to obtain an arrest warrant for Towles.
