June marks the end of an era for two Mineral Wells citizens who have made a lifetime career of one business.
Mineral Wells Bank of America Marketing President and Manager Rodney Henderson signed on with the company 46 years and nine months ago. Nearly 13 years later, Assistant Manager Fredia Hart joined as well. Now, both are retiring.
Throughout their multiple decades with they bank, they saw a handful of name changes, but that didn’t change anything for them.
One of Henderson’s fondest memories goes back to the day he was hired in 1967. It was such an unusual event, he said.
“I got up in the morning, went up to the local grocery store, and was just getting ready to go to Weatherford College, and wasn’t thinking about working, met a friend of mine from high school, and before you know it, I started working that same day,” Henderson said.
Henderson went on to pursue schooling and work, both on a part-time basis.
Hart began her career with the company in 1981 after her husband, Bobby Hart, was transferred to the Department of Public Safety in Mineral Wells. What started it all was their search for a local bank.
“We came to the bank, which was Republic Bank at that time, to open an account,” Hart said. “I filled out a job application and started work at the bank the next week.”
Both Henderson and Hart originally signed on as tellers, working their way through the ranks until finally landing the two key spots for the local bank. The thing they will miss the most is their customers. They thoroughly enjoyed the relationships they built through the years, particularly with their loyal customers dating back to the days they signed on.
Nevertheless, both are looking forward to retirement.
