For the men and women of Palo Pinto Challenge, it’s almost time for the ball: the Salsa Baron’s Ball.

Tickets are now on sale for the event that serves as the largest annual fundraiser for Palo Pinto Challenge – a Strawn-based, non-profit teaching program that employs mentally and physically challenges adults.

The ball will be held in the Sheriff’s Posse Building in Mineral Wells at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 22.

Patrons at the ball can expect a bushel of great food and entertainment and with an admission price of only $100 for two people, Palo Pinto Challenge President Jennifer Elmore said it’s a small price to pay for a fun night and a worthy cause.

“It’s important for people to come to the ball to support the challenged adults we have in our program,” she said. “Raising money is difficult for us because we’re so small and don’t really qualify for a lot of grants. We depend on donations and fundraisers; that’s where our money comes from.”

Palo Pinto Challenge strives to teach its employees that “everyone can work with pride.” The men and women in the program make salsa all year as a means of learning and applying a skill, but the salsa profits only pays for the salsa production and does not generate revenue for the group, making fundraisers like the Ball all the more important.

This year’s Salsa Baron’s Ball will be feature music and dancing, a fajita dinner and plenty of auctions and raffles.

Each ticket automatically enters its buyer into a raffle for a $1,000 Grand Prize.

“It’s lots of fun,” Elmore said. “This evening has everything for a good time.”

Last year’s ball raised nearly $17,500 over expenses, making it invaluable to the stability of Palo Pinto Challenge.

A ticket to the Salsa Baron’s Ball means a vital contribution to the betterment of the lives of many challenged individuals in Palo Pinto County.

“Our adults work hard to learn the skills that they can live and work with,” Elmore said. “We make salsa, but the salsa is to help the adults learn. If you can make salsa, you can make things at home.”

Tickets are on sale at the Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce and via a letter campaign.

Individuals can also order tickets by calling 254-672-5738 or 940-325-7100.
