Salsa Baron's Ball a fun success

Fifteen years ago, Palo Pinto Challenge – a Strawn-based, non-profit – was created as a teaching program that employs mentally and physically challenged adults. Two years after its founding, the Salsa Baron's Ball was born.

This year's SBB, held Friday, went very well, PPC President Jennifer Elmore said, as approximately 200 people showed up.

“It's important for people to come to the ball to support the challenged adults we have in our program,” Elmore said. “Raising money is difficult for us because we're so small and don't really qualify for a lot of grants. We depend on donations and fundraisers; that's where our money comes from.”

The idea for the SBB, although for a different cause, came from the Dallas-based American Cancer Society's Cattle Baron's Ball, Elmore said. Unlike the CBB, however, the SBB is not a ball.

“It's not actually a ball,” Elmore said. “It's just a fun time. It's not formal. It's just fun.”

The night was filled with food, music, dancing, raffles and auctions.

Although the financials aren't complete at this time, tickets alone raised thousands of dollars. forthe organization.
