West City Park experienced some vandalism over the weekend, including spray painted images and vulgar language on park equipment and trash cans, according to one council member; and the park is now missing a zero-gravity chair swing for kids, which was donated by Leadership Mineral Wells.
Ward 1 Mineral Wells City Council Member Thomas Lively said he called in the vandalism Tuesday after visiting the park.
“I didn't know about it until today,” he said. “My wife and I take our son out there as much as we can and [when] we went out today … the first thing we saw was a trash can that had a pretty profane message on it.”
“It upsets me,” Lively added. “In one way, we don't have a crazy amount of stuff [in the parks] and what we have is vandalized.”
He added that it also upsets him “that people want to go out and vandalize [park property]. It makes it less appealing to take a family out there.”
Lively said he heard from someone Tuesday, who saw paint on the playground equipment Sunday when going to the city pool.
He said he wasn't sure if the same individuals took the missing swing, but said, “It was one of my kid's favorites.”
