Deputies chase disobedient motorists

From staff reports

Parker County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking two men in connection with a traffic stop that resulted in a pursuit and crash.

Sheriff’s deputies reportedly conducted a traffic stop for expired registration on a gray 1999 Infinity in the 600 block of Northwest Front Street, in Millsap, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

When deputies made contact with the driver, they said the passenger was clenching something in his fist. The suspect allegedly refused to obey deputies’ commands to open his fist or get out of the vehicle.

The suspect then revealed a plastic baggie with a white crystal substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, and began pouring the contents of the baggie into his mouth, according to reports.

Deputies then went to the passenger side of the vehicle in an attempt to restrain the suspect and stop him from swallowing the substance, but the vehicle’s driver reportedly sped away, leading deputies into a high-speed pursuit.

The suspects fled westbound on FM Road 3028, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to sheriff's department reports. The Vehicle crossed onto Old Millsap Highway, entering Palo Pinto County, where deputies followed the suspects as they sped east on Highway 379. Deputies lost visual contact with the vehicle at FM Road 1195, about 15 minutes into the pursuit.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted an area search and discovered the suspect vehicle upside-down in a ditch at the intersection of Airport Road and FM Road 1195. Both suspects fled the scene. A search of the area did not reveal either suspect.

An inventory search of the suspect vehicle allegedly revealed two additional baggies containing suspected methamphetamine and several items of identifying information that did not belong to either suspect. The vehicle was found not to be registered to either suspect. It was later towed from the crash site.

The case has been filed with the Parker County Sheriffs Department's Criminal Investigations Division, where investigators will pursue evading arrest/detention, fraud use or possession of identifying information and tampering with evidence charges. The suspect’s identities are not being revealed until the arrests have been made.
