A great way to enhance a summer!

Dozens of youngsters, including Lamar Elementary students, attended a kid-themed science exhibit at Boyce Ditto Public Library Friday morning.

"Dr. Decepticon" represented Dallas-based Mad Science during the program, which is part of the library's summer reading program.

The University of Texas at Arlington student displayed several experiments to an engaged crowd of children.

Following the exhibit, library president Palin Bree said the host introduced a smaller group of kids to a rocket experiment.

Introducing children to new concepts at a level they can appreciate is a theme of the library's summer program and continues this week through Aug. 2.

Kids of all ages can join library staff and invited guests Friday morning at 10:30 for "Critterman." A murder mystery dinner suitable for teens is set for the following evening at 7 p.m. Due to limited seating, reservations are required for the dinner event.

The summer lineup through July includes:

• July 3 at 2 p.m. – Duct Tape Madness.

• July 5 at 10:30 a.m. – Whirled on a String.

• July 9 at 5:30 p.m. – Open Mic Night.

• July 10 at 2 p.m. – Art Hour.

• July 12 at 10:30 a.m. – James Wand, Secret Agent Spy Show.

• July 19 at 10:30 a.m. – Zooniversity.

• July 20 at 10 a.m. – Anime Day (ages 13 and up).

An end-of-summer celebration for local kids will take place July 27 at the Lamar Elementary cafeteria.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the event will feature a performance by Snake Encounters, reader recognition and prize giveaway.

A teen and adult concert and prize drawing is set for 4 p.m. Aug. 2 at the library.
