Two rookie Mineral Wells police officers received their badges during a pinning ceremony at Tuesday evening’s city council meeting.

MWPD Chief Dean Sullivan led the ceremony, culminating with City Clerk Juanita Formby leading Robert Allensworth and Abel Rodriguez in their oaths of office and Mayor Mike Allen presenting the badges.

Family members pinned the officer’s new badges as part of the ceremony.

Commission seat vacated by Randall Polston. A P&Z commissioner since 2000, Polston recently moved away from Mineral Wells. Logan is transferring to his new post from the city’s Board of Adjustment.

Taxi service

Following a public hearing with no citizen comment, council members voted unanimously to adopt a resolution determining the need of a taxi service in Mineral Wells. The action stemmed from a recent application by Johnathon Dale Hamm to operate a taxi locally. City code dictates council must hold a hearing upon receipt of such an application.

Hamm said the primary reason he hopes to operate the city’s first taxi service in four years is to provide safe transportation for intoxicated residents.

“We’re trying to do this as a service to the city,” he said.

Land sale

Council members also unanimously approved the advertisement of bids in the sale of city-owned property in the Spring Hill addition of Mineral Wells.

A homeowner in the subdivision expressed interest in purchasing one of 11 lots owned by the city.

Other business

In a unanimous vote, council approved the execution of an economic development agreement between PecoFacet and the city.

As part of the company’s ongoing construction of a 50,000-square-foot research and development facility, the city has agreed to assist in the installation of a needed water main. While PecoFacet will pay for all materials and supplies, city employees will handle the installation process.
