Local bikers turned out in droves Saturday to back a local “good thing” – Tommy's Angel Tree. The good cheer spreaders massed at Smitty’s Cycles for the annual Motorcycle Toy Run in Mineral Wells.
"We had 60 bikes and about 125 people," said Angel Tree coordinator Connie Parker.
The effort to increase donations for area children in need resulted in the addition of at least 10 bicycles and "a ton of toys," Parker added.
"They also raised some cash," she said, noting the total as of Tuesday was about $1,000.
The bikers traveled from Smitty's Cycles to the Steve Perdue Training Center on South Oak Avenue, she explained, where participants gathered to fellowship and enjoy chili and stew.
Parker said volunteers are working hard to make sure all the gifts are wrapped and ready to go by Saturday's delivery date.
