A wildfire broke out Wednesday afternoon at the Metcalf Ranch (in an area that previously burned in 2011) and attached are photos taken by an adjacent property owner.
The location is southeast of Metcalf Bend along the Brazos River. The county fire marshal was not available today for comment; however the nearby property owner said that by sunset, Wednesday, it appeared volunteer and state fire crews, including several dozers, had cut a line around the area burning, and "corraled the fire."
The cause is not yet determined. The fire broke out in an area with no power, there was no lightning and no green hay bales, but it was close to the river. The Index will keep readers updated.
Please be safe today and enjoy the free community fair (starting at 5 p.m.) and firework's show at Ram Stadium (bleachers open at 8 p.m.-bring a blanket). This is a safer alternative than lighting fireworks in this dry terrain.
Also, consider supporting local fire departments by buying a ticket to the Buckets and Boots concert on July 13 on a ranch west of Graford. Willie from Duck Dynasty will be emcee and there will be some great artists, including one revealed in Friday's Index. The proceed go to local volunteer fiire departments. They need funds for consumables, like fuel, tires, hoses, firesuits etc., and rely on donors.
