POSSUM KINGDOM LAKE – Divers from the Brazos River Authority and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recovered the body of 27-year-old Lindsey Culver, of Lubbock, in 25-to-30-feet of water in the Hells Gate Cove area.
Searchers found her body using side-scan sonar, and recovered her at 2:24 p.m. The Justice of the Peace Shawn Humphries made a positive identification of the woman, who was discovered missing at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, just minutes before the Hells Gate fireworks show was supposed to begin, according to BRA spokesperson Judi Pierce.
BRA Rangers immediately arrived on the scene and halted, and ultimately cancelled, the fireworks display. Search crews worked until 2 a.m., Sunday, and resumed their search at 8 a.m.
Drowning has tentatively been listed as the cause of death, according to a press release issued this afternoon. Humphries has ordered an autopsy be conducted by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Pierce said details of what led up to Culver’s disappearance were “extremely sketchy” at this point.
After divers finished at Hells Gate, they were dispatched to Sandy Beach after a call came in for a missing 3-year-old boy. BRA divers went directly to Sandy Beach and found and rescued the boy who was reportedly under water. A BRA spokesperson said the boy was taken to PPGH and the child was thought to be from Graham.
