Palo Pinto County Fair, stock show begins Wednesday

STAFF REPORTS

Now that the new year has begun, Palo Pinto County is already hitting the ground running.

Alongside the Palo Pinto County Fair, there is the Junior Livestock Show on Jan. 8-10 with an auction following on Jan. 11.

This year marks the 77th annual stock show and auction.

Starting on Wednesday Jan. 8, the sheep show will kick off the event at 4 p.m, with the goat show following 15 minutes later.

The swine show will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m., the rabbit show will be on Friday, Jan. 10 at 8 a.m. and the steer and the heifer show will be at 2 p.m. on Friday as well.

The auction will kick off at 10 a.m. at the Expo Building.

In order for an animal to be eligible for the auction, it must be in the top 75 percent of its class.

All potential buyers are welcome to participate.

A buyers breakfast will be held on Jan. 11 at the Holiday Hills Country Club from 7:30-9:30 a.m. During this time, buyers will be able to eat, register to buy and look over the auction list.

All participating buyers will receive a plaque in appreciation for supporting the Palo Pinto County youth. As an added bonus, FFA and 4H students will be serving the buyers drinks, lunch and snacks throughout the auction.

Deeann Hampton, PPCLA Stock Show Chair notes, “our youth have been working very hard with their animals this year.”

She also noted that the icy weather and cold temperatures back in December have been difficult on the students and livestock.

On behalf of the youth Hampton goes on to say, “they would appreciate the community coming out to support them by watching the shows and being a buyer.”

For more information, contact Deeann Hampton, PPCLA Stock Show Chair, through Facebook on the Palo Pinto County Livestock Association page.
