BB signs with WC

All-state SS Allen to play at Weatherford College

By TONY EIERDAM

Considered by many the best softball player in Mineral Wells High School history, senior Bethany Allen has made her decision on which college she will play softball at next year.

The all-state shortstop will sign on Feb. 15 to play softball next year at Weatherford College. She actually signed her scholarship letter on intent Friday morning in a ceremony at the MWHS library. “Official” signing day is not until Feb. 15, where she will turn in her papers to WC.

Allen, the daughter of Garry Allen and the late Robin Allen, said she wanted to play at the two-year school to stay closer to home this year. Allen, who was sought out by many colleges across the state and region, can sign with another college or university after the 2015 season, or she can choose to stay at WC for another year.

Allen is a three-time, all-district first-team shortstop who has also been awarded the district’s Offensive Player of the Year twice, and as a sophomore was an all-state, first-team selection at shortstop.

“I am really excited,” Allen, whose nickname is “BB,” said. “I just wanted (the process) to be over with. “I am going to a place where they want me, and now I don’t have to stress about it.

“I chose Weatherford College because it is close to home, and I am not really ready to go far away yet.

“But she (WC coach Haylee Williams) really wanted me, and it is a good program.

“Also, a lot of my friends who I played select softball with are on this team.

“That made easy to chose (Weatherford College).”

Lady Rams head coach David Tarver, Allen’s coach at MWHS, said he feels WC is  perfect choice for his star shortstop.
