Mission Mineral Wells, a community outreach group comprised of locals from various churches, held a prayer walk Saturday in the southeast part of Mineral Wells.

This section of town was selected by the Mineral Wells Police Department as the target of a yearlong revitalization and crime reduction initiative known as “Project 365.” More than 60 individuals from at least 10 local churches gathered to walk through the neighborhoods and pray for the city.

According to Rose Jordan of Mission Mineral Wells, Saturday’s event was the first in a monthlong push to spread a message of hope to residents in the statistically high-crime area.

March marked the beginning of the third phase of Project 365 and will focus on code enforcement and neighborhood blight.

Jordan said Mission Mineral Wells will be involved in that aspect, as well, noting city staff has already begun concentrating on small portions of the target area in need of revitalization.

“The city is out over a period of seven weeks,” she said, explaining the task of cleaning up the area will be tackled more comprehensively during the final phase of Project 365.

“We’re just kind of joining in that cleanup effort,” she said.

According to Jordan, the response from the prayer walk was overwhelming. She said the group sent a letter to all residences in the area alerting locals they would be gathered in the neighborhood to pray.

“I can tell you within an hour what time the mail is delivered in that neighborhood,” she remarked, noting she heard from three residents almost immediately, expressing a request for prayer. She said she also received numerous prayer requests from area residents over the following two days.

To finish out the month, Jordan said Mission Mineral Wells will take part in a service project and send out goodie bags containing invitations to Easter celebration services.

Jordan said volunteers from at least 16 churches are already working in the Project 365 area.

“The Bible says that they will know God sent Jesus when we are working as one unified body,” she explained. “Our goal is not to promote a church but to show that The Church is real, is good, and it cares.”
