First Financial Bank recently became the first bank in the nation to offer a certain mobile bill pay application.
Known as "Picture Pay," the app is available on both iPhone and Android devices.
According to First Financial Bank Chairman Kenneth Williamson of Mineral Wells, the feature is included in the bank's existing application and involves a few simple steps to get started.
"We're the first bank to allow you to take a picture of your bill and pay it by phone," he said, noting the feature is available at all of the bank's 55 branches statewide.
After taking a picture of a bill, including information such as name, account number and due date, a user can then choose an account from which to pay and a date for the funds to be transferred, he added.
Williamson said this feature is an addition to other mobile features provided by First Financial and other bank chains, such as recording deposits via smartphone camera.
While the app is already available Apple and Android mobile phone platforms, Williamson said the company is currently working on new ways to reach customers with the technology.
"We'll probably bring out an app for the iPad," he explained.
