The Mineral Wells Senior Center is offering free income tax preparation assistance every Thursday, beginning this week and going through April 11, with volunteers certified through the Internal Revenue Service.
Help will be given on a first-come, first-served basis for those who sign in from 8:30 a.m. to noon, each Thursday. The Mineral Wells Senior Center is located at 102 N.W. 6th Ave.
Those needing help need to come prepared by bringing with them a photo identification, social security number, a copy of the individual's 2011 tax return and all forms that show income received in 2012 (such as, W-2, 1099, SSA-1099).
In addition, bring a copy of personal property tax paid in 2012, even if not planning to itemize this. Property tax paid can increase the standard deduction by as much as $500, for those who file a single return, or up to $1,000, if filing jointly with a spouse.
