Saying “Goodbye” to Mineral Wells Fire Chief Robin Allen began Thursday afternoon with a procession, as firefighters and emergency medical colleagues carried, led and followed her body, on foot, from Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home to First Baptist Church.
The procession along West Hubbard, shortly after 4 p.m., drew numerous friends and citizens, who lined the streets to help say farewell to the 50-year-old fire chief who died last Friday night at her home.
As Allen’s comrades carried her casket along the route, tears welled in eyes and some seemed to not fully believe what they were witnessing.
Allen’s colleagues from the Mineral Wells Fire Department and Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department led the procession. To help local fire departments, in the procession and the around-the-clock vigil over Allen’s body, honor guards came from Coppell Fire Department and the Heart of Texas Honor Guard, which is comprised of Stephenville and Brownwood Fire Departments.
According to MWVFD Capt. Jerry VanNatta, Parker County crews and others will also assist today.
Allen’s funeral begins 10 a.m. and fire departments will bring their respective apparatus as early as 8 a.m. to line up along West Hubbard, heading westward.
After the funeral, Allen’s family will have a private burial; however, fire engines and vehicles will line the roadway and salute as the funeral procession passes.
