The awards ceremony and artist reception will be hosted at the Firehouse Art Center on the closing day on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. Artists are asked to take their photographs home at this time.
Les Lopez will judge this special show. Lopez is a familiar figure in Weatherford. Both he and his wife, Cecelia, who is an artist, are members of this community. They met at the University of Texas-Austin, where he majored in Pharmacy and Cecelia in Fine Arts.
Photography has been a lifetime passion for Les. Cecelia embraced that passion soon after their marriage. Gradually a hobby became a profession as both continued to study and become more involved in photography. Upon Les’ retirement from Pharmacy in 1998 they opened a full time professional photography studio, which is still in operation.
Practicing most of their photography in the Weatherford area, the couple has not developed a specialty. Instead they have mastered techniques to cover portraiture, weddings and commercial photography as well as restoration of old images.
Since they enjoy both photography and traveling, many of their numerous awards over the years have been on images captured in exotic and out of the way places. They have conducted a variety of photographic workshops both as traveling excursions as well as in their studio, for both entry level and professional photographers. For several years, Les taught both entry-level photography and Photoshop as community education courses at Weatherford College.
Being well known in photography circles the couple is often asked to judge photographic contests. Something they both enjoy. They have been active participants in a variety of professional associations in the past.
