Saddling up for the annual rodeo parade

When May turns the corner, so will the Palo Pinto County Livestock Association's 76th Annual PRCA/WPRA Rodeo and parade; but there will be fewer corners for the parade route.

The Mineral Wells Police Department wants citizens who plan on watching the rodeo parade on May 9, beginning at 5 p.m., to know the new route, since it is shorter and cuts out several turns eastward.

According to MWPD Lt. Brad Belz, the parade will begin and end at the old train depot on South Oak Avenue. However, instead of the procession turning east on S.E. 1st Street and traveling to 4th Avenue and back, this year's route will go directly north along 1st Avenue to the Women's Club building. There, the procession will turn left, or west, on N.E. 2nd Street to North Oak. At North Oak, the parade will turn south and end on 3rd Street.

The parade is again put on by The Cowboy Church of Mineral Wells. Lineup begins at 4 p.m. and the parade takes off at 5 p.m.

Judging will take place for the following categories: commercial; clubs; horse and rider; antique cars and tractors; children and youth; and churches. Parade entry is free and open to all, but registration is required.

To enter, download an entry form at cowboychurchofmineralwells.com/2013ParadeEntryb&w.pdf. Print it out and return it by mail, fax or email it to cbcmwell@gmail.com. The form includes rules and regulations for certain entries like floats and riding entries.

For equestrians wanting to participate in the 2013 trail ride from the Parker County Sheriff's Posse building to Mineral Wells, via Millsap, call (817) 565-3950. Riders should be ready to leave at 7:30 a.m. and the ride will start promptly at 8 a.m.

All rodeo events – parade, trail ride and rodeo – require horses to have a current, negative Coggins.
