Pet of the week

By Brandon Holder | Special to the Index

Shelby is a 1-year-old female Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd mix. She is just as sweet as she can be and gets along well with the other dogs up at the Mineral Wells Animal Shelter. Shelby sits, when asked, and is very anxious to please. She has a will to learn and will make someone a wonderful family pet or companion.

Brought in as a stray, Shelby is very excited about finding her new forever family. Please come to the Mineral Wells Animal Shelter and adopt Shelby, you are sure to fall in love.

Both Australian dog breeds – heelers and shepherds – tend to have high levels of energy, a quick intelligence and an independent streak.

Both breeds respond well to structured training, particularly if it is interesting and challenging. These dogs can form a strong attachment to an owner and can be protective of them and their possessions.

Shelby’s short coat makes her easy to groom and maintain.

To adopt Shelby, or any number of dogs or cats, visit http://www.mineralwellstx.gov/index.aspx?nid=108 and click on the ‘Impounded Animals’ link for an up-to-date listing of all animals. The shelter is located at 101 Farm-to-Market Road 2256 and is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekends. Foir more information, call the shelter at 940-328-7752.

Last week’s Pet of the Weeks, Bo, is still available and is waiting to be adopted at Walden Farm and Ranch Supply. Please visit him, too.
