PALO PINTO – A Palo Pinto County Grand Jury last week returned 11 indictments against nine named individuals.

Among those indicted was Corey Edward Crews, who faces three charges stemming from an incident last December.

According to a police spokesperson, a local officer was injured when Crews dragged him a short distance in an attempt to evade arrest during the city's Christmas parade.

Reports allege an undercover officer noticed an individual with a prior warrant for evading arrest near a convenience store in the 700 block of North Oak Avenue and called for backup.

Officers attempted to stop Crews, 23, of Mineral Wells, when he reportedly entered his vehicle. Police said when an officer attempted to reach in the vehicle and turn off the ignition, Crews drove off, dragging the officer briefly and causing unspecified injuries.

Along with MWPD investigators, Palo Pinto County sheriff's deputies searched the area and located Crews about two hours later, police added.

In an unrelated incident, Crews was also arrested earlier this month for evading arrest or detention after police say he fled officers in the process of issuing a criminal trespass warrant in the 2500 block of S.W. 4th Avenue.

A grand jury indicted Crews for the

offenses of aggravated assault of a public servant with a deadly weapon, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and endangering a child.

The following were also indicted:

• Thomas Edgar Lee Jr. – aggravated sexual assault of a child.

• Anthony Cruz – sexual assault of a child.

• Aniceto Reyes-Martinez – driving while intoxicated/third or more offense.
