Trail riders saddling up in the morning

Annual ride from Weatherford to Mineral Wells starts off rodeo excitement

The annual Mineral Wells Pro Rodeo trail ride from Weatherford to Mineral Wells is set for tomorrow morning, with an 8 a.m. departure from the Parker County Sherrif’s Posse grounds.

Riders can start arriving at the PC Posse grounds, just off U.S. Highway 180, west of Weatherford, at 6 a.m.

The day-long ride will follow its usual path along U.S. 180 to Old Millsap Highway and into through Millsap, where riders will break for lunch at Walden’s Farm and Ranch.

After remounting, rider will ride up Patterson Hill toward Mineral Wells. They should arrive in time to join the parade festivities.

Parade:

This year’s parade is again put on by The Cowboy Church of Mineral Wells. Lineup begins at 4 p.m. near the old train depot at S.E. 3rd Street and S.E. 1st Avenue. The parade sets off at 5 p.m.

The route has changed once more and will add back in the jog toward the east and back along U.S. Highway 180.

Judging will take place for the following categories: commercial; clubs; horse and rider; antique cars and tractors; children and youth; and churches. Parade entry is free and open to all, but registration is required.

To enter, download an entry form at cowboychurchofmineralwells.com/2013ParadeEntryb&w.pdf. Print it out and return it by mail, fax or email it to cbcmwell@gmail.com. The form includes rules and regulations for certain entries like floats and riding entries. For more information, call (940) 452-8038.

For equestrians wanting to participate in the 2013 trail ride from the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse building to Mineral Wells, via Millsap, call (817) 565-3950. Riders should be ready to leave 7:30 a.m. and the ride will start promptly at 8 a.m.

All rodeo events – parade, trail ride and rodeo – require horses to have a current, negative Coggins.
