Insurance claims continued to pour in following Wednesday evening’s devastating hailstorm and one local agent provided tips for those with damage.
Phil Luker of State Farm recommended initiating the filing process as soon as possible.
“If you think you have hail damage, don’t wait to make a claim,” he cautioned, “go ahead and get it turned in.”
As of Friday, he said he is unsure how many claims had been submitted, adding home and auto losses were steadily being reported.
“Some got big hail, some got pea-sized,” he explained, noting the extent of damage greatly depended on the location of the property.
When seeking a contractor’s service, Luker warned locals to proceed with caution.
“I would know a little about them,” he said, “be able to verify who they are.”
Trusting the services of someone local – and with reliable referrals – is a wise choice, he said.
“If they’re out of town, that’s OK,” he noted, “but do your homework and get some referrals from people.”
A team of specialists will be in town within the next few days to assist those with claims, he said.
“We’ve got a lot of claim personnel to handle homes,” he explained, estimating they will be available at some point this week. “It takes us a while to do homes.”
Auto claim experts will be available within a few days, he added.
“We should have the auto tent set up in front of the old Brookshire’s,” he noted. “I think that will be operational Monday or Tuesday.”
