A Travis Elementary student recently entered her classroom clutching a large sum of money and approached her teacher, Jennifer Seaton.

According to Seaton, fourth-grader Meadow Neighbors expressed her interest in donating to a school-wide fundraising drive for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Mineral Wells Independent School District Public Relations Director Mary Creighton explained the Travis Student Council had just completed its project "Pennies for Patients" and Neighbors wanted to make her own contribution.

After saving her allowances and any money she received as a gift for some time, Neighbors handed Seaton a stack of bills totaling $80.

Seaton said she was overwhelmed by the touching gift and Neighbors' unassuming generosity.

"I am so proud of this student for the example that she is," Seaton said. "She is a little quiet girl with a big, loud message."

When she heard of the gift, Creighton said she visited Neighbors and was also struck by her kind spirit.

She said she "came away feeling that Meadow will be a great role model for caring and sharing."
