Thursday, the Mineral Wells Ministerial Alliance invited the public to the local National Day of Prayer.

Churches, community leaders and citizens gathered from across the county, coming together from noon to 1 p.m. in the west parking lot of Bank of America.

Mineral Wells National Day of Prayer Coordinator and local pastor Guy Weathers facilitated the event, proclaiming this year’s theme was “One Voice, United in Prayer.”

The program kicked off with a proclamation from Mineral Wells Mayor Mike Allen.

“The National Day of Prayer Task Force, a project of the National Prayer Committee, is dedicated to calling America back to God. …” Allen said in his proclamation. “Individuals, corporately and individually, need to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities and men. With one mind and one voice, we may glorify God. There is power in prayer, we can find hope and comfort in the grace and guidance of a loving God.”

Following the proclamation was a prayer session where local pastors prayed over individuals from the community representing the seven spheres of influence – government, military, media, business, education, church and family.

To close the event, Weathers lead all who were gathered in a “Prayer for the Nation,” arranged by Anne Graham Lotz, 2014 Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

“For the glory of your name hear our prayer, forgive our sin and heal our land,” attendees said in closing. “We ask this in the name of your son, Jesus Christ, who offers us salvation from your judgment, forgiveness for our sin and reconciliation with you through his own blood shed on the cross. Amen.”
