Downtown Mineral Wells was abuzz with youth and adults busy washing windows.
Because they could.
This was a part of New River Fellowship’s spring break for about 40 students, from fifth through 12th grades, and their second year to participate in Mission Mineral Wells.
Monday through Wednesday afternoons, “we have gone around town doing random acts of kindness, which included washing windows for the downtown businesses, pumping gas for people [and] washing car windows at gas stations,” said Dan Rasmussen, campus pastor for New River Fellowship in Mineral Wells.
But those were just some of the acts the fellowship performed.
Rasmussen said they also wrote uplifting notes and placed them on cars in parking lots and brought Sonic drinks to the Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce and a few other businesses. The group also purchased domino games and took them to the Mineral Wells Senior Center and played with the seniors.
“We put together 270 food bags, which is enough to feed the needs of Strawn, Mingus and Graford,” he said of their work at They also worked at New Haven Helping Hands.
The kids not only came from here, but also from Weatherford, Brock and Aledo.
“In the mornings we have partnered with Palo Pinto Baptist Association churches, including Leaning Tree Church and Rock Creek Baptist Church, and did Vacation Bible School at Travis Elementary,” he explained, adding that another group of churches was also having a program at Houston Elementary School.
New River Fellowship wants to take root in Mineral Wells.
“We are called as a church to Mineral Wells and will be establishing a campus here in the near future,” said Rasmussen. “We are actively searching for a location and are praying that God will open the right place for us. Until that happens, we want to take every opportunity to bless and serve our community. Mission Mineral Wells has been a great way to do that. We want our students to serve and love, like Christ, in everything we do and develop a passion for serving others.
