The second Mineral Wells Punt, Pass and Kick competition was rained out Sept. 29 and moved to last Saturday afternoon. Rather than rain, participants faced cold temperatures and wind.
Still, a group of 33 talented young athletes kicked and passed their way to wins in their age divisions at the Jackie Harvey Track Complex to advance to Saturday’s sectionals competition at Gateway Park in Fort Worth. Those winners will advance to regionals. The ultimate goal is to make it to the Super Bowl in February.
Event coordinator Jim Vines of AmVets Post 133 in Mineral Wells, which organizes the competition, said a number of youth wanted to compete in PP&K but couldn’t because they were competing in games elsewhere, so next year plans are to move PP&K to a weeknight.
“For those who participated, the enthusiasm was high and the competition friendly, but very competitive, considering the frigid weather,” Vines said.
