In a special session Tuesday the Mineral Wells ISD school board approved contracting with Fort Worth-based VLK Architects Inc. for a facilities needs assessment.
MWISD Superintendent Gail Haterius said the board had to select one of “three good architectural firms” to award a facilities survey contract. Two other firms presenting the district with their qualifications were PBK and WRA Architects.
Haterius said she and some board members had a track record with some of the firms. She said they called references where all three architectural firms had worked “and we got good references on all of them.”
But one thing stood out for MWISD.
“I think the one thing that tipped it in VLK’s favor is they had assisted us in the Cool Schools Program grant,” she said of the grant that recently provided $1.2 million for new heating, ventilation and air conditioning units at Houston and Travis elementary schools.
