A Mineral Wells resident was recently selected to take part in an upcoming expenses-paid flight to Washington, D.C.
Joe Spears, who served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, will fly out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport next month for the trip, along with 26 other regional veterans.
The trip is made possible by Honor Flight Network, a nationwide program dedicated to providing free D.C. flights for aging and ill veterans.
Currently, the organization is focused on sending World War II veterans, a group its website states is shrinking at a rate of about 900 per day.
Spears’ wife, Virginia, said the couple learned about the program from staff at a Tarrant County veteran’s medical facility.
