Tour of Homes features Lone Oak house

By CLINT FOSTER

As part of a continuing series, the Index is highlighting each property on Zonta’s 28th annual Christmas Tour of Homes, Dec. 8. Next up is the Mahan family’s home on Lone Oak.

In addition to Crazy Water’s brand new Crazy Bath House and the Silk Stocking Bed and Breakfast, this year’s Christmas Tour of Homes will also stop at Gary and Nickie Mahan’s unique home on Lone Oak.

The 2,135-square-foot, three bedroom, two-and-a-half bath dwelling was built in 2011 with an open-concept floor plan.

It is a brick house with rock trim sitting on 2.3 acres, which includes a water well on the property. The Mahans have done all of the landscaping themselves, which features drought-tolerant perennials in all of the flower beds.

The Mahans described the interior as “grand” and “kid-friendly.” Some of the furnishings include Amish wooden furniture and family antiques, such as an old ice box, dining table and Victrola. Nickie Mahan did all of the window treatments.

Because the tour features local homes and properties all adorned in their Christmas best, the Mahan’s home will prominently display two Christmas trees inside.

The main tree will be decorated with ornaments to reflect the interests of each family member. The home will also be decorated with several pieces from miniature Christmas villages that belonged to Gary’s grandmother, aunt and mother.

Some of the home’s other features are tile flooring in all common spaces, carpeted bedrooms, 4-by-6 foam-filled walls, a tin roof, an “oversized” two-car garage and a large barn for storage.

Purchase tickets for Zonta’s 28th annual Christmas Tour of Homes at the Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce or any Zonta Club member location for $20 in advance or $25 the day of the tour.

The tour will last from 2 to 5 p.m., Dec. 8, with refreshments served all afternoon at Community National Bank.

Proceeds from the tour will help support the Zonta Club’s many endeavors and service projects including Meals on Wheels, Koats for Kids, Z Club, scholarships, Girl’s State, Look Good Feel Better and Woman’s Club.
