The Mineral Wells Senior Center will host its annual Senior Expo health fair this Friday, September 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free to any person age 50 or over and will feature a variety of health screenings that include hearing, vision and blood tests. The senior center staff is hoping for up to 150 registrants for this week’s health fair.
“We were pleased with last year’s Expo attendance,” said Senior Center Director Vivian Conrad. “About 130 senior adults participated and they all seemed to have a good time.”
Renew Home Health is the Title Sponsor for this year’s Senior Expo. Bronze level sponsors include Abbi Home Care, Arbor House Weatherford, Bethany HomeHealth Services, IntegraCare Home Health & Hospice, Physical Therapy Dynamics and Palo Pinto Nursing & Rehab.
In addition to health screenings, the Expo will also feature informative workshops on topics relevant to senior adults, such as elder law and Medicaid issues, an explanation of Medicare supplements and the Affordable Care Act, preventing joint injuries, warning signs of Alzheimer’s and improving balance to prevent falls. The event will also include table exhibits set up by local health care agencies and service organizations, as well as Bingo provided by the Better Business Bureau. CVS Pharmacy will offer flu shots between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., free with a Medicare card and $32 for those without Medicare enrollment. Adding to the fun will be give-aways and door prizes awarded throughout the morning.
Walmart is donating food for a free breakfast between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the senior center, located at 102 NW 6th Ave. in Mineral Wells. Lunch, served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the center, is provided courtesy of the Mesquite Pit and Chick-fil-A Weatherford. All other screenings and activities will take place at First Baptist Church, 100 SW 4th Ave. in Mineral Wells. The registration table will be set up inside the church’s east entrance. Students from Weatherford College’s Occupational Therapy Assistant program will be on hand to act as guides and helpers for the day.
