According to Mineral Wells Police Department reports, it was not a good Independence Day week for two couples; specifically the males in each pair.

The first incident occurred in the wee hours of the morning of June 30. Police reported the previous day, a man went to his ex-girlfriend’s house to repossess a vehicle. Although police are unsure as to who, it would appear that someone decided to channel their inner Carrie Underwood during that night, because that morning one of the vehicle’s tires was slashed. The damage means a criminal mischief offense between $50 and $500.

To add insult to car-injury, the complainant received a companion text message from a friend of his ex-girlfriend, which police said could be considered a terroristic threat. According to the MWPD report, the individual warned the man that if he didn’t “stop his drama,” his parents would “be looking for his body.”

From Carrie Underwood to an incident more Miranda Lambert-esque, the second incident was a case of aggravated assault with a weapon. This incident, too, involved a couple and a car.

Police report a husband and wife were in an argument on the afternoon of the Fourth of July. The wife said she was leaving, so the husband gave her the keys to the car once she agreed to pick him up for work in the morning. But once she was in the car the wife changed her tune, informing the husband that she would, indeed, not pick him up for work.

Police say the husband then tried to jump into the vehicle to take back the keys, but was unsuccessful. He then proceeded to stand in front of the car, according to police, but his wife revved the engine before she sped at him, running over his ankle with both her front and back tires. She was gone when police reached the scene.
