Veterans' Corner - Feb. 16, 2014

— The constant relocation in dealing with multiple deployments can be a hectic life for children of military families. To help build resiliency and give area kids a chance to be kids, Camp Corral is participating with YMCA and 4-H camps to offer children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members the "week of a lifetime" for FREE. Nationally some 3,000 kids ages 8-15 will participate in an amazing week of non-stop fun and excitement in the great outdoors and connect with other kids facing similar challenges.

For the fourth year, Camp Corral will send children from military families to a week-long camp FREE OF CHARGE. Since its founding, Camp Corral has grown to 20 camps in 16 states, and served over 4,000 children.

Although any child from a military family is eligible, registration priority is given to children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members. This experience includes activities like canoeing, swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, ropes course challenge, archery, horseback riding and other camp and outdoor activities. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from locations.

Founded in 2011 by Golden Corral founder James Maynard, Camp Corral is now a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt, non-profit corporation based in Raleigh, N.C. Building on Golden Corral restaurants' commitment to honor veterans and military service members and their families, founding sponsor Golden Corral has supported Camp Corral since its inception through an in-store fundraising campaign every April and May, where they collect donations from their restaurant guests. One-hundred percent of the donations go directly toward Camp Corral's programs. In 2013, Golden Corral raised nearly $1.5 million for Camp Corral.

The dates and locations for the 2014 camps run from June 1 through Aug. 16 in 20 states across the country. Registration opens Feb. 13 on its website. Camp Corral will send over 2,800 children to camps in 2014.

Interested families can visit www.campcorral.org or call 1-855-605-1267 for information on upcoming dates and locations.

Please pass this info on to someone you know and make a donation on the next visit to a Golden Corral, along with a "thank you."

Speak to you again next week.
