Mineral Wells the hot spot for fire training this weekend

MINERAL WELLS — The Mineral Wells area will be well-covered this weekend in the event of a large fire.

The Texas Engineering Extension Service, a member of The Texas A&M University System, and the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department will stage the 25th Annual North Central Texas Area Fire Protection School in Mineral Wells this Saturday and Sunday.

As usual, hundreds of firefighters are expected this weekend, gaining valuable fire fighting training, education and certification through the classes offered, several of those led and taught by Mineral Wells VFD members.

The school is based at the Activities Building at Wolters Industrial Park.

The training is for members of volunteer, paid, or partly paid fire departments of cities and industries who want the latest training in firefighting and related skills and keep abreast of new opportunities and developments in the fire service and gain experience in various fire control and fire protection methods.

Classes and training offered during the school include emergency driving, wilderness search and rescue, wild land firefighting, fire investigation, repelling, swift water rescue, hazardous material emergencies and more.

For more information, Mineral Wells VFD Chief and Palo Pinto County Fire Marshal Steve Perdue at (940) 325-2908 or e-mail sperdue@mesh.net.
